We get asked a lot if massage can help with the healing process of chiropractic. The answer is: Absolutely! Massage, like chiropractic, is based on the principle that the body has the ability to heal itself. While Chiropractic care is focusing on the health of the spine and nervous system, massage therapy mostly focuses on the muscle systems of the body. If muscles become imbalanced, shortened, or tight, it can cause muscles on the opposing side of the body to become strained. This can create a host of issues: weakened circulation, physical imbalances, and of course, pain. Massage therapy works to stretch and soften the muscle groups so that the stress on the muscles is reduced and eventually eliminated.

When coupled with chiropractic care, massage therapy can address the sources of stress and pain to create the foundation of a joyful, healthy life. Most chiropractic patients that receive regular massage therapy along with regular adjustments tend to enjoy a faster and more complete recovery from injury and deeper benefits overall. “Another benefit of chiropractic care coupled with massage therapy is that patients are more relaxed before their chiropractic adjustment, so their spine tends to stay properly aligned longer because the muscle tension has been released and joints are less likely to pull themselves out of alignment again.”[1]

Massage Therapy can be an integral part of chiropractic care and can and should be incorporated into chiropractic care. A therapeutic massage performed along with the medical knowledge and guidance of your chiropractor can change the course of your entire recovery process, and help you on a deep, fundamental level, achieve health and wellness for every aspect of your body. If you have had a recent surgery, a therapeutic massage can make a great difference in your healing time.
