Spring Self-Care: 9 Tips for Spring Wellness

by Oasis Wellness Partners on June 29, 2022       Oasis Wellness Partners

Every season gifts us with its uniqueness: Summer brings longer days, Autumn brings deep colors and cooler weather, Winter brings coziness and time for reflection, and Spring brings renewal and rebirth! These 9 tips will inspire you to create a spring self-care routine. Have fun and enjoy Spring!

TAKE A MINDFUL WALK THROUGH NATURE

Early spring is ripe with the anticipation for summer. Plan a walk through nature, but make sure to make it a mindful walk. Open up your senses and fill yourself with the joy of spring as it unfolds. You’ll notice that the birds are singing, that the air carries a scent of spring rain, and that the branches of the trees have hard little buds that will soon become leaves and flowers.

HAVE A MEAL OUTSIDE

We usually think of summer as the ideal season for outdoor meals, but why not consider having lunch or dinner in the early spring sun? Sure you’ll have to leave your sweater on, but it will be a welcome change from staying inside during the winter. Choose a nice outdoor terrace in town (with a hot cup of fresh mint tea), or enjoy a home-made lunch in your own backyard. Even if you only have a tiny balcony, brew some coffee and grab some fresh baked goods from a local bakery and take in the light!

PLAN A SPRING BEAUTY ROUTINE

Milder weather usually requires lighter formulas than we need in the winter. If you were using a heavy oil cleanser or thick cream moisturizer, now is the time to consider gel or milk cleansers and lighter lotions for the skin. And if you weren’t using an SPF during the cold months, it is certainly time to look for one now. But your skin isn’t the only part of your body that could do with a change of routine: Many women shave more often during the warmer months, use a stronger deodorant, or paint their toenails now that sandals season is approaching. Whatever it is you decide to change, make it fun and enjoy that seasons allow you to notice and respond to your body’s changing needs.

TRY A FULL-BODY SCRUB

Prepare your body for some sunshine by giving yourself a vigorous sugar or salt based scrub. Doing this will both increase blood flow and remove dead skin cells. It also feels great and is a way to slough off the winter and embrace the coming warmer weather.

VENTILATE YOUR HOUSE

Spring is the time to start ventilating the house again! Open up your windows and switch the stale air for a fresh spring breeze. To keep that feeling of freshness, consider getting a essential oil diffuser or a locally made, soy-based scented candle.

SPRUCE UP YOUR PLACE WITH A BIT OF GREENERY

Potted bulbs, such as narcissus and hyacinth, are great choices to bring in the outdoors, as is any indoor plant. Spider plants, snake plants, bamboo, and jade plants are all great, low maintenance plants that can make your home feel like a greenhouse.

USE UP THE OLD TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE NEW

Your freezer might be stacked with filling soups and mashes, your wine cabinet filled with heavy reds, and your bathroom cabinet stacked with rich perfumes. Early spring is the time to use these up, store them or trade them in for lighter varieties. Think: citrus, floral, light and airy. Make sure to mindfully make the transition by appreciating the memories and enjoy the process of finding seasonally appropriate replacements.

MAKE NEW HEALTH RESOLUTIONS

What were your New Year’s Resolutions? Lose a little weight, drink more green tea, go to bed a little earlier… Can you remember? If you were a little too optimistic at the start of the year, why not give yourself another chance at the start of spring? The warmer weather gives us the opportunity to spend more time outside and be more active, which offers us a chance to review (and keep up with) your health resolutions.

GET ADJUSTED REGULARLY

Regularly getting adjusted when the season transitions can be an integral part of your spring self-care routine. After the long months of winter, and all of its indoor activities, making sure our bodies and spines are aligned and in good shape for the renewal in physical, outdoor activity canhelp to make sure that activity is safe and pain-free.
