Keeping Your Adjustment Appointments: 10 Reasons Why

by Oasis Wellness Partners on June 8, 2020       Oasis Wellness Partners

In our nearly 29 years of chiropractic practice, we have seen all kinds of people for all kinds of things: insomnia, back pain, headaches, you name it. And the patients who do the best, who progress with their treatments, are the ones who come in for consistent adjustments. Here are the 10 reasons we think it is important that practice members come for their regular adjustments:

Chiropractic Focuses on Prevention

Regularly scheduled adjustments are an integral part of the chiropractic lifestyle that focuses on preventing illness and disease. It is not meant to mask symptoms. When nerves are stressed within joints, a condition called a vertebral subluxation occurs. When the spine is neglected, an array of symptoms may be experienced, from headaches and upset stomach to carpal tunnel syndrome and colic. Adjustments are a safe and gentle way to prevent illness and disease by allowing nerves to function properly.

Chiropractic Care Plans Are Individualized to YOUR Needs

Chiropractic care is customized for each patient. Therapies and frequency are selected just for you by us in order to serve you and your health. By missing appointments, you aren’t following the doctors plan for you, which can hinder or delay your progress.

Chiropractic Is a Partnership Between You and the Doctors

Chiropractic care has the strongest effect when patients are actively engaged. We prefer that patients work to understand their role by showing up for appointments, asking questions, coming to New Beginnings, and doing their “homework” when assigned (exercise, nutritional modifications, and stress reduction techniques).

Chiropractic Care Is Cumulative

During each appointment, progress is made towards the cumulative result of optimal health. Missing appointments breaks this continuum of care and can result in missing out on the full individualized benefits of chiropractic care.

Chiropractic May Boost Immune Function

“One study indicates that chiropractic adjustments boost polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) and monocytes – white blood cells associated with a healthy immune system.

Chiropractic care could also aid in lowering blood pressure by promoting stress reduction. Other studies have linked chiropractic care with a reduced risk of developing chronic pain, Parkinson’s disease, infantile colic, ear infections, multiple sclerosis, and fibromyalgia.”[1]

Chiropractic Reduces Stress and Fear

Regular adjustments help patients’ nervous systems learn how to better manage stress and minimize the impact that it has on their body. Many people will miss appointments with their doctors because of fear or anxiety of the treatment or bad news they may receive. Chiropractors put those fears to rest by explaining the procedures. One study found that less anxiety about chiropractic care results in a faster recovery from stress.[2] Keeping appointments helps dispel anxiety, ease fears, and speed up physical and emotional healing.

Chiropractic Boots Athletic Performance

Elite athletes, for example, Serena Williams, Tiger Woods and Tom Brady, all use chiropractic care to reach maximum physical performance.

Chiropractic care boosts performance by strengthening the body’s entire musculoskeletal system. The NFL has gained an understanding of the benefits, and if they aren’t one of the 31% of teams that have a chiropractor on staff, they refer their players out to one.[3]

Chiropractic Fuels Cognitive Function

Testing of the cervical spine before and after adjustments reveal that cognitive function is stimulated by chiropractic care. In addition, cervical adjustments enhance response mechanisms in the brain leading to increased reaction time. So our reflexes are improved y getting regular chiropractic adjustments.

Chiropractic Enhances Work Performance

Regularly scheduled appointments can help improve performance at work by warding off injuries, including carpal tunnel syndrome and low-back pain. One study that looked at 250 employees who filed workers compensation claims for low back pain found that patients who received chiropractic adjustments experienced greater reductions in pain and disability which lead to lower therapeutic costs and a quicker return to work. How’s that for a good reason for chiropractic to be included in employee health care!

Keeping Your Appointments Is Respectful To Other Patients

We do understand that emergencies happen and advance notice isn’t always possible. But, more often than not, it is. Cancelling in advance gives our office the opportunity to reassign and reschedule your appointment, both making sure you get the care you need and helping someone else who might want that time slot. One way to help remember your appointments is to schedule them ahead of time so that you are scheduled the same day and same time every time, which makes remembering your appointment day and time easy. We can help you with that at the Front Desk!

Give us a call at our Scarborough, Maine office to schedule your appointment today and start feeling and being your best self at (207) 883-5549.
